The Second Sunday of May is considered as Mother’s Day. This is an ideal time to reflect on her sublime virtues and seek the blessings of our mother with love and reverence.

Will ever a tree be a burden to the land?
Will ever a leaf be a burden to the tree?
Will ever a fruit be a burden to the creeper?
Will ever a child be a burden to the mother?

- A Tamil Song

A mother’s sacrifice
It was said whether a child is good or bad depends on the upbringing of mother. To have a peaceful and harmonious society, the role of the Mother’s is more emphasized and needed than ever before. Motherliness is the greatest virtue; it is unique, noble and unparalleled on earth. . There can be no match to such sacrifice and service as that of a mother. She would give up her dreams, ambitions, fame, glory and even her life for the sake of her children without a qualm or complaint. She is indeed the epitome of love and sacrifice.

Benevolent love
Whether the child is good or bad, skilled or unskilled, lovable or not, a mother’s love will remain the same, and it will never change with changes. And if her child achieves, then the Mother’s happiness is boundless. This was well explained in the Thirukural by Thiruvalluvar which goes like:

The mother, hearing her son's merit
Delights more than when she begot.

Victims of our society
Clashes and fights among the men invariably crush the women. When such violence happens between groups of men for their caste, religion, region or creed it affects the women of both groups. Women were defamed in public, attacked by arms, even seduced with cruelty, and even murdered. This signals the destruction of the sole backbone of the family. If at all they survive such treachery they would be forced to spend their life in deep sorrow and tears. Undoubtedly this chain of violence and discord affects the life of the children and brings even greater pain to the mother.

Challenges of the present society
Men diversify among themselves. No two humans will completely agree on everything with the other. It is hard to find agreement of the fullest extent. Naturally there should some difference of opinion, which is healthy to a certain extent, over which, it could in due course grow into conflict of two groups and end in a riotous war. There is no harm in people thinking that the caste, creed, sect, religion, language that they belong to is the best on earth. But at the same time they shouldn’t look down upon others or treat them bad which would instigate them to retort in violence. The forces which divide mankind works round the clock and exceed to overtime too. But, there are very few forces to unite the people. There are innumerable hands to sow the seeds of evil. Although great souls like Jesus, Mohammed, Guru Nanak, Mahavir, Buddha, Swami Vivekandhar who showed us how to lead our life and those like Gandhi, Ramalinga Adigalar, Ramanar, Aravindhar who advocated Love and discipline are not amongst us anymore. But we luckily still, we have Mothers and their virtuous souls to guide us always.

Discrimination is not created by God!
Will anybody look for the same caste blood when desperately seeking help for a surgery or treatment? By the very skin no one could guess the religion of the man. Take for example, a heart or kidney transplantation. The kidney or heart, which has been transplanted, will be accepted by the system without any inhibitions towards caste, creed, age, sex etc…The creator hasn’t created any discrimination, it is all man made.

Nature holds all equal
The tree gives good shelter to both the high and low castes. The flower gives the same fragrance to all religions. The breeze shows no difference to the rich and poor. The sun gives light to red, black or white and the moon displays its resplendent beauty equally to Negroes, Mongolian, Aryan or Dravidians. Water satisfies equally the thirst of the people of different lands. But why do we differentiate and divide ourselves.

Mothers touch- the panacea
Here is a simple way to unite the world. One need not disown their beliefs and faith instead they can add one new thought and work on it to unite the world. Then we won’t have conflicts of any kind, and everyone will have loving kindness toward the other. What could possibly be that miracle?!

It is not only the mother of the murdered who is moaning, but the mother of the murderer will moan for her kid’s action. Motherliness is the same with all mothers, for it shows loves and compassion without any difference. Based on that thought, the Ideology and the Organization of
Ma has been formed. The distinctive force that could unite humankind is Ma. One needn’t go anywhere or undergo any training or study any materials to nurture this concept. From the comforts of your home, and through observing the mothers in our neighborhood, understand the influence of motherliness and accept it into your respective lives.

To cultivate motherliness in people irrespective of caste, creed, religion, language, gender or age, the ideology of Ma has been formed. Everyone should take part in this and contribute their part to form a society instilled with the supreme values of motherliness.

Motherliness in all
The fascinating fact is motherliness is not the sole possession of mothers. For it is seen at times in children and in male genders too. We have so many widowers among us who play the role of the mother. We have seen children who have not even crossed the age of 15, taking care of their younger siblings. Don’t you think that is indeed beautiful?
God made man perfect and self sufficient.

Recalling an incident that touched me:
Once when I was talking with my friend at his house, his three-year-old kid suddenly ran out of the house. My friend turned back to his other daughter and said;

“Kamala, can you come here and take care of Priya? She has gone out of the house.”

Hearing his words, Kamala rushes out, took Priya in her hands and brought her into the house after kissing the kid lovingly. If you think Kamala is either the mother or the sister of Priya, then you are mistaken. She is just a six year old servant maid, who was born elsewhere, working in my friend’s house to take care of the financial needs of her family. Child labour is a common practice, which is prevailing in society, and there are many Kamalas out there working in these kinds of places losing the love and affection of their own parents and near and dear ones.

Despite this pitiable situation, the striking beauty is the motherliness of Kamala taking care of others, bearing the burden of a troublesome life for herself. A touching example indeed, of young and selfless motherliness.

Those who join the Ma, should act with the sense of motherliness all the time. Everyone should see and treat others with motherliness. The younger generation people should exhibit their motherliness and be compassionate towards the older people who face difficulties.

Here are a few more thoughts on Mother!!!

  1. A mother’s heart is the classroom of her child.
  2. Since he couldn’t make himself available to all at all the time, God created mothers for every one.
  3. A country with good mothers is a country with good citizens.
  4. So as his mother, a mother shapes up the child.
  5. Even the kindest father on earth cannot match the qualities of a mother in upbringing of their child.
  6. A good man is one who does not bring tears in his mother’s eyes and if you want a good friend chose such man as a friend.
  7. Which is the most peaceful place on earth? It is our mother’s laps.
  8. The best gift that a child receives from his father is the love that he shows to his mother.
  9. Mother to the child is like the God to the earth.
  10. If you ask the achievers and successful people in the world as to who is behind their success and virtues, the answer would come in a flash – Mother.
  11. Motherhood is just not a human feeling but applicable to all species such as birds, animals and all earthly beings.
  12. A father could disown his son even brothers and sister could be apart even husband and wife could be split but the love of the mother is always present and never finds any change. Anyone could blame a child, but the mother will lead a life to demonstrate how it should be lead.
  13. The country, which has good families, will be a good country. The family in which the mother was respected will be prosperous family.

Mother’s language is different to mother tongue
Mother tongue is the one which we speak like for example we have several, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi etc. But that is different from a mother’s real language. A Mother’s language has no words. Even a new born will knows the expression of his mother in few days. This expression can’t be explained by any language. No language can really provide a meaning and the child giggles and enjoys every expression and endearment the mother showers on it. Likewise the very expression of the child lets the mother know the need of the child and she attends to it. Call it a mother’s instinct, call it a special bond, love or whatever you please, but finding enough words to describe it would prove futile. The fascinating thing here is that the mother tongue of the mother could be Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, English or even German but a mother’s language of love is universal. It has no words or explanations; instead it has life, kindness, compassion and love.
